What Teal is

Teal's Chrome extension saves jobs from LinkedIn and some forty other boards into a tracker, with the salary and the posting's keywords pulled out. From there you build or tailor a resume for the job, write a cover letter with AI, and keep track of the people you network with. It also reviews your LinkedIn profile.

On Teal+, each saved job gets a Match Score: how well your resume covers the posting's keywords, with the missing ones listed so you can add them. The free plan shows the top five.

What Job Puffin does that Teal doesn't

With Teal you choose a job, then check it. With Job Puffin the checking is done for the whole search before you choose: the Chrome extension sends every posting in a LinkedIn search in one click, each is scored out of 100 on seven criteria with a sentence on each, and the list comes back in order.

The score is a judgement of fit rather than a keyword count: whether the level is right, whether the posting's screen is something your CV shows, whether the terms suit you. Your musts are kept apart from it, so a job that breaks one (on-site when you need remote, a contract when you want permanent) is flagged with the posting's own words and sorted below the rest. The jobs you pursue go into a pipeline with notes, and Job Puffin drafts a first message to the people named on the posting.

What it costs

Job Puffin Plus is $15 a month, or $12 a month billed quarterly, for 300 assessments a month; Pro, with unlimited assessments, is $24. Teal+ is $29 every 30 days or $79 every 90: nearly twice as much month to month, and more than twice by the quarter.

Both have a free plan. Job Puffin's scores every posting with the reasons, on 50 jobs, with no card. Teal's free plan shows each job's top five keywords; its Match Score is on Teal+ only.

When Teal still makes sense

  • You want a resume builder, with a tailored version for each application.
  • You save jobs from many boards, not only LinkedIn.
  • You want a networking tracker alongside the jobs.

Which to choose

If you already know which jobs you want and need a resume to fit each, Teal is built for that, and they work together: rank the search in Job Puffin, then tailor your resume for the jobs at the top. If you are facing a long list of LinkedIn results and do not know which are worth the effort, Job Puffin answers that first, for about half the price, and answers it free for your first fifty jobs.
