What Simplify is
Simplify's Copilot extension autofills application forms on company career sites and logs each application in a tracker. The free plan includes the autofill, a resume builder and the tracker. Simplify+ adds AI resume tailoring, cover letters and answers to application questions, email drafts, referral tools, and Autopilot, which submits a number of applications a week for you.
It also has its own job feed, matched to your profile and preferences, and shows a keyword match percentage for a posting against your resume. It is aimed especially at students and new graduates, with curated lists of internships and graduate roles.
What Job Puffin does that Simplify doesn't
Job Puffin works on the search you already run on LinkedIn. The Chrome extension sends every posting in it in one click, and each is scored out of 100 on seven criteria, from the skills it screens on to the level and the terms, with a sentence on each. Your musts, such as remote only or no contracts, are checked against the posting's own words, and a job that breaks one is flagged with the quote rather than averaged in.
That is a different kind of judgement from a keyword match. A keyword match tells you how much of a posting's vocabulary your resume shares; Job Puffin's score is meant to tell you whether the job is worth your application, and why. The jobs you pursue go into a pipeline with notes, and it drafts a first message to the people named on the posting for you to send. Every application stays your own.
What it costs
Job Puffin Plus is $15 a month, or $12 a month billed quarterly, for 300 assessments a month; Pro, with unlimited assessments, is $24. Simplify's help centre lists Simplify+ at $39.99 a month or $89.99 a quarter, more than twice as much.
Both have a free plan. Job Puffin's has every feature, with 50 assessments to try it on a real search and no card.
When Simplify still makes sense
- You apply on company career sites and want the forms filled in.
- You are going for internships or graduate roles, which its lists are made for.
- You want tailored resumes and cover letters written for you.
Which to choose
If your search is a numbers game and the forms are the bottleneck, Simplify is built for it, and the two fit together: rank the search in Job Puffin, then apply to the top of it however you like. If you would rather send fewer, better applications, and the reading is what slows you down, Job Puffin does that work for less than half the price, and the first fifty jobs are free, so you can try it on a real search before you decide.
Questions
- Is Job Puffin a Simplify alternative?
- For choosing jobs, yes; for applying, no. Simplify is for filling in and submitting applications. Job Puffin ranks the postings in your LinkedIn search against your CV and leaves the applying to you.
- Is Job Puffin cheaper than Simplify+?
- Yes, at the time of writing. Simplify's help centre lists Simplify+ at $39.99 a month or $89.99 a quarter; Job Puffin's paid plans start at $15 a month, or $12 a month by the quarter. Both have a free plan.
- Does Simplify rank LinkedIn jobs?
- Not LinkedIn's results. Simplify has its own job feed, matched to your profile and preferences, and shows a keyword match for a posting you open. Job Puffin takes the search you ran on LinkedIn and puts every posting in it in order.
